Default MovieMaker/removing pics after placement

Can I change the settings in MovieMaker to remove photos as I drag them to
the timeline, so I can easily see which photos have not been used yet? It is
difficult to keep track, as the thumbnails are so small.

No, it doesn't work that way because you can use a clip in multiple
projects. But you can move used pictures to a separate collection (named
Used or whatever), to keep track what you've used. Also, if you make the
Storyboard taller, its thumbnails will be larger.
