I've installed a firewall on my server and I can see SVCHOST.EXE connect to IP addresses that look "weird". For instance, my firewall reported SVCHOST wanted to connect to "mail.lamediatheque.be" (194.78.106.1) on port 80! It is definitely *not* a Windows Update web service. I have installed the latest security hotfixes and this installation of windows has never been in trouble with viruses of any kind: my anti-virus, AVG, is always up-to-date with the latest virus patterns and I even made a scan from a remote machine and found no know sources of infection. Hence I consider my machine is safe. Can some one confirm whether WUAUSERV is generating IP addresses to find a local Windows Update web service in the country I reside (I live in Belgium) ? Thanks in advance. -- Vince C. |
