Windows All Mail - "Lastest Version" in Windows All

Default Lastest Version

I've been away for awhile, and I just checked this newsgroup because
of the (known) issue with the hotmail server(s). (Hope MS gets that
resolved in the not-too-distant future because I find the web
interface for Windows Live Hotmail too sluggish and awkward.)

So, I see there is a new build; I'm using 8.0.1226.

I was under the impression from an MSFT poster long ago that new
builds would show up on the Microsoft Update site. There is nothing
there for me after a custom scan.

Also, I'm confused about all of the different names that I'm seeing
in posts (eg: WM, WLM, Live Mail, WLM 2, WLM beta).

Did the name "Windows Live Mail Desktop beta" change?

Anyway, how do I update to the latest version (whatever it's
called).

Cheers,

~ Mark

Yes. Keeping up with M$ email IS rocket science.

My version is showing 12.0.1184, is this the latest?
In the link you gave above, there is no indication of what version it
is.
Surely it would make sense for MS to at least show what version number
is available for download.

That would be handy I suppose but would involve a bit of labour
with little or no profit potential.

And it would make sense. I daren't even put Microsoft and that word in the
same sentence. It might cause the server to fail

Latest versions are not put out via Windows Update (yet) due to the beta
status. This may change (Windows Live Messenger 8.5 beta put out it's first
WU last week... just to test it could ;-)

Any new version of WLMail (to disambiguate from WLMess) will no doubt be
announced here first...

Yes you're absolutely right, it would make sense & not to so so is plain
stupidity.
